The Gospel Paraphrased

There are many fine translations of the Gospels readily available.  This paraphrase is not meant to replace them.  Rather the intention here is to offer a more contemporary rendering so that you can imaginatively translate the Gospel into your own situation.

This Sunday's Gospel Paraphrased

Jn 18:33-38a

Pilate entered the Judgment Hall and called to Jesus, saying, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ Jesus answered. ‘Are you asking me this from yourself or because of what others have told you?’ Pilate retorted, ‘Am I a Jew? Your own nation and your religious leaders have handed you over to me. What have you done?’ Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it had been of this world, you would expect my subjects would fight to prevent me being handed over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not like that.’ So Pilate said to Jesus, ‘Are you a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say I am a king. But know this, for this reason I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice’

Pilate retorted, ‘Truth! What is that?’
